Election Education

I confess... I'm not all the excited about this year's presidential race, but won't go into that here. Election year... especially a presidential election year, is the perfect time to teach you children about the democratic process and how we elect a president, what a president is and does (if you haven't covered that lesson already), and how the electoral process works. You know... I could even use a refresher on that one myself.

Here are a handful of links to get you started (all free of course!):

YPresidential Election Lapbook Free PDF
YOklahoma Homeschool Free Unit on Presidents and Elections for primary grade levels. This study recommends a variety of books that can be checked out from your local library, but she provides links to Amazon.com for those wishing to buy.
YNational Student/Parent Mock Election Mock election day to be held on October 30th, 2008. Enroll and learn more about incorporating this into your lesson plans.
YCongress for Kids Start with the first link, then click the arrow at the bottom of each page to proceed with the lesson on elections.
YBen's Guide to US Government Good overview for elementary aged children through high school
