How Do You Find a Good Child Psychiatrist?

We've had a dreadful time trying to find a good psychiatrist for our 9 year old son (with Aspergers). I get all sorts of names from moms with special needs children who love their doctors... and not one of these beloved physicians is accepting new patients. This leads me to the conclusion that we have a shortage of qualified child psychiatrists.

I say this because we live in a large metropolitan area with scads of doctors in every field imaginable, but the only doctors I can find who are accepting psychiatric patients are reported to be lacking any personality and some are listed as psychiatrists, but don't have an MD??? Am I missing something? 

So, this has been a very frustrating process. I have a child who really needs to be seen and soon. We're also seeking general counseling for our son, but I have him in with a great gal for general therapy sessions... she can't prescribe anything, should he need it, but he has someone to talk too and that's huge.

Hoping tomorrow will bring forth a new lead or two. I've posted the question on a local autism board... hoping that will be fruitful. In the meantime I'd like to ask for prayers. My little guy is depressed and we need to get him into see someone soon.
