Should You Check Out Other Homeschoolers' Curriculum?

With the planning of new school years and the 4th annual Not Back to School Blog Hop in full swing, I have found myself wondering whether or not it is a good idea to indulge in pursuing the seemingly endless lists of homeschool bloggers’ curriculum choices.

There are pros and there are cons and here are a few that come to my mind.

Curriculum Hunters’ Friend - If you’re shopping around for curriculum, checking out what other homeschool families are using can be a great idea. I have found wonderful resources that work well with my own family by taking a peek at what similar families use.
Be a Help to a Homeschool Mom - If you have rave reviews to share about certain curriculum choices, the hop makes sharing easy and you could help out other moms whose children could benefit from them.

Community - Visiting -even virtually - with other homeschool families is just one way to feel less alone in your journey and the blog hop presents an array of home educators who’ll not only share their curriculum but homeschool rooms, which always inspire me to better organize my space, and more.
Overexposure - all that curriculum exposure can be overwhelming; particularly if you are just getting started homeschooling. Your religious beliefs, values, budget, homeschool methods and children’s learning styles can make navigating the curriculum choices much easier.
Comparison Trapped - you may also find yourself stepping into the dreaded comparison trap. Keep in mind that you use the curriculum you do for good reason and as long as it is working for your family you can feel at peace about your choices.
Lost Time - time can easily be lost to scrolling through pages upon pages of homeschooling blogs. When my day is complete or I have a spare moment while the little one is napping and the bigger kids are playing nicely, that’s the time to check out those blogs that interest me.

So, with pros and cons in mind, I’ll head over to the blog hop each week to visit with other homeschool families from all walks of life and from all over the world. Over the coming weeks I’ll enjoy viewing school rooms, student photos and more.

If you’re participating please do share a link to your blog! You may encourage or help another homeschool mom in search of curriculum and other homeschooling ideas.
