Safe Glow LED Dog Collar Review

If you've been reading this blog since Christmas, you know that on Christmas, we acquired a dog named Christmas. If you can follow that, you're brilliant! Our girl is an awesome and beautiful golden retriever, who loves to play outside, whether it be the light of day, or dark of night. If you're a dog lover, I'm sure you can appreciate the concerns of having your dog out after dark, whether leashed or otherwise. Especially if you live in the 'burbs like we do. Just enough traffic to make a pet owner nervous.

In fact, we had a little family dispute going in our home before the fine people at Dogtrainingcollars.com  asked us if we'd be interested in trying their  Safe Glow LED Dog Training Collar. My husband was reluctant to allow Christmas to run in the backyard after dark, because well... it was too hard to see what she was up to. We occasionally catch her during the day trying to dig her way under our privacy fence, and naturally, we don't want to lose our girl, so we make her stop immediately... that is, when we can see her!

Given I'm not quite the worrier that he is, my argument was always, well... what if she needs to go? It seems rather cruel to force a potentially "loaded" dog to endure a miserable night, just because of what "could" happen, especially given, she does have a leash after all. So why not just take her out?

In any case, that was then, and this is now and our poochy will suffer no more. We LOVE this collar! It's a lot thinner than her other collar. At first I wasn't sure how durable it would be. I'm still not convinced she needs to wear it all the time and in fact she doesn't. What we've taken to doing, is snapping it on when she's wanting to go out at night, or when we decide to take her for a walk after dusk. During the day she wears a heavier collar and the collar she has grown accustomed too. In fact, she really doesn't like to take her other collar off. It's like a wrestling match, so "normally" when she's wearing the Safe Glow LED collar, she's wearing it over her regular one.

These photos were taken late afternoon, so... you're not going to see the wonder that is the Safe Glow LED Dog Collar in action (see video further down the page), but you can see in these first two photos what the collar looks like. In the following 2 photos you'll see Miss Christmas showing her interest and affection for her her new collar.

Gotta love a happy dog! I love this photo of her. She was admiring the collar after we took it off one evening. So cute! Who knows what she's thinking about here, but she eventually pulled the collar from the table and took of with it! lol I guess she knows it's hers.
Since pictures don't do the collar justice, I'm including a video that hopefully will. It's shot with my very amaturish camera (a new camera is on my wish list). My daughter helped me with this process of trying to keep Christmas in eyeshot of the camera, in the dark, so you all could witness the LED glow! There is NO WAY you wouldn't notice a dog wearing this collar. She's leashed in the video, so we didn't have her running circles, but maybe that would have been ok? In any case...

                              • Lightweight and flexible
                              • Durable and secure clasp
                              • Affordable, starting at $24.95
                              Pros:
                              • Does exactly what it promises to do, giving us peace of mind when our dog is playing outside or going for a walk before dawn or after dusk.
                              • Affordable
                              • Attractive (just look at Christmas!)
                              • Easy to turn off and on
                              Cons:
                              • I wish the collar were just a bit thicker. We're used to heavier dog collars. This issue would not keep me from recommending this collar to someone else.
                              • Not completely waterproof. I'm not sure if it would be ok in a rain shower or not. We probably won't take a chance!
                              • Battery pack/LED comes out very easily. Don't let your kids play with the collar. I suspect it would be easy to break, or to lose the battery pack/LED.
In addition to the Safe Glow LED Dog Collar, Dogtrainingcollars.com also offers dog training collars and hunting collars. I've been thinking we might need to get our dog a training collar. If you watched the video above, you might be in agreement!

Finally, (and just for fun) here is our Christmas at the end of the day, sleeping in the same place she slept when she was 9 weeks old. The pillows have been covering the fireplace since our children were toddlers, to buffer any falls, but our girl decided it was her bed. Believe it or not, this photo was taken at 2 am! You'd never know it, thanks to my camera flash! Sorry girl if your mama woke you up!

Disclosure: I was provided with a complimentary Safe Glow LED Dog Collar for the purposes of this review. No other form of compensation was provided. All opinions are my own.
