New Neighbors in the 21st Century
So tell me, do people still bring over an apple pie or freshly baked cookies when a new neighbor moves into town? I just wonder. My neighborhood seems very friendly, but my cul-de-sac not so much. Everyone primarily keeps to themselves and no one really knows anyone else. Seems very odd and I wonder if I could maybe, in some small way change things? Even just a tiny bit?
We have new neighbors on the horizon as the house next door has been sold. By the way, it sold in less than 2 weeks, which is sorta cool given the state of the economy. In any case, is it acceptable these days to bring over a baked good or a bottle of sparkling grape juice? Would my neighbor across the street feel jealous that I hadn't done the same for her when she moved in the year before? I actually had planned to, but never did and still feel funny about that.
Anyway, what have you done in the past with the arrival of a new family on your street? What have people done for you? I'd like to think people still do this somewhere in America? Please tell me they do! I've just not seen it in so long!

Hi Wendy!
Long time no see or hear ;0)... my fault. But I do (most of the time) read your emails ;0).
As I read this, I wanted to say, "I feel the same".
It is sad 'we' don't do this anymore. I know when Mike & I first got together back in 2004, I did make cookies for the kids next door when I was the 'new' neighbor.
My intention was to get to know the entire family a little better with a 'sweet', "Hi, My name is Jean".
Today, we are afraid of the unknown. To a point, I think it's a good way to be.
But at the same time, that same fear can 'create' distance, additional fear and as we see all too often, people living next to each other and barely knowing what they look like.
I say, "Go For It!". If they turn out to be nut jobs, you did the right thing and won't end up two years later feeling regret for not extending your hand in friendship.

Love that you've commented Jean! It's been awhile since I've heard from you. Hope you're doing wonderfully with your Candle business. I've really learned what it means to "burn clean" as I often switch between another big name brand candle, and the Mia Bella Brand. Mia Bella is sooo the best!
We farm, so I take over a couple dozen of our eggs....
